You have not lived until you've witnessed the gill-rattling fury of a jumping tarpon.
In the Spring, tarpon make their way through the Florida Keys and up the coasts of Florida. They can be found cruising the deeper flats and channels through Marco Island, Chokoloskee and the Florida Everglades.
Many baby tarpon find their homes in tucked away places below the many mangrove islands of the Ten Thousand Islands.
We offer tarpon fishing trips throughout the spring. Night fishing for tarpon is also available and can be a lot of fun too.
Tarpon generally travel in schools. We do come across some that are laid up on the surface and generally these fish will react to a fly if the presentation is right.
Setting the hook on a tarpon with a fly can be difficult. Considering their mouth is similar to that of a cinder block, setting the hook can take some practice. Strip striking a tarpon three or four times usually does the trick but many other factors are involved - which way the tarpon turns to run, if he jumps immediately, or if he sounds in deeper water.
We recommend fishing several consecutive days for tarpon, especially if you have not done it that much. It takes time to become accustomed to seeing the fish (with your guides help) and then making the cast and making the fish eat the fly.
